Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an improved serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to force a final set.

He defended 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
